It is Monday again and my spring break is coming to an end (I go back to school tomorrow). I've had some great reading time over break and I am super excited to share it with you. I am reading is Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. I am loving the series so far and I can't wait to continue with it. I am definitely in a Sarah J. Maas mood because I jumped immediately from A Court of Mist and Fury to the Throne of Glass series. ![]() From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil. Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart. Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for. People do the damndest things when they're in love. ![]() Title: Half-Blood Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout Series: Covenant, #1 Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Mythology Publisher: Spencer Hill Press Date Published: October 18, 2011 Pages: 281 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Goodreads Synopsis: The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals--well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1: Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck. Review: When I started this book, I found it very similar to Vampire Academy. The Half-bloods were the Dhampirs, the Hematoi were the Moroi, and the Daimons were the Strigoi. Even the laws, were similar. The Hematoi/pures were viewed as superior to the Half-bloods, just like the Moroi and Dhampirs. Aside from that, this book was phenomenal. I loved the forbidden but undeniable chemistry between Alex and Aiden. I was rooting for them from page 1. Especially during the training sessions, oh. my. god. I don’t know how much I can say without spoiling it. So, I’ll leave it at this: damn. I loved that from day 1, Alex was a badass. I love strong and empowered female characters so, that just made me love Alex even more. Now onto Aiden. Does Jennifer L. Armentrout ever have a shortage of swoon worthy male characters? No. The answer is most definitely no. I think that Aiden just made his way to my top 5 book boyfriends. Scratch that- he is in my top 5 list. Easily. Honestly, if you haven’t read a book by Jennifer L. Armentrout, what are you doing with your life you need to get your hands on one as soon as possible. Drop everything and run to your nearest bookstore (or Amazon) and get every single one of her books some of her books! As I am writing this review, last night I finished Sentinel (the 5th and final book in the series) and I already want to re-read it. That is how amazing the series is. So, if you haven’t read this series, what are you waiting for?? Seriously, your life will be changed. I am not even joking. This series is extraordinary. Buy Half-Blood:
This was a tag created by Alaina over at aninfinitebookworld. When I saw this tag, I knew I absolutely had to do it. I also tag anyone who has read the Lux series to do this tag! :)
1. What was your first impression of Daemon Black? I think my first impression of Daemon was probably similar to Katy’s. I thought he was definitely rude to Katy but obviously I also thought he was super hot. :) 2. What is your favorite feature of his? His eyes. I absolutely love his eyes. 3. What do you like most about his personality? I love how protective and ultimately kind hearted he is. 4. What was your favorite Daemon scene? Can I say all of them? If i had to choose, I think it would be… actually I can’t choose. I honestly can’t choose. 5. What is your favorite Daemon quote? Just like the previous question, I truly can’t choose. 6. What book was Daemon your favorite in? Opal because in Opal we kind of get to see the sweet side of Daemon. 7. What Lux cover (featuring Daemon) is your favorite? Hm… Oblivion maybe? 8. Who would you cast as Daemon for a movie adaptation? Pepe Toth. He is the model on the Lux covers and I think he would be the perfect Daemon. 9. How long have you been a Daemon lover? Since I read Lux in the Summer of 2016. 10. If Daemon was a real person (Luxen and all), would you date him? Of course! ![]() Title: Incriminating Dating Author: Rebekah L. Purdy Series: Standalone Genre: Contemporary, Romance Publisher: Entangled Crush Date Published: April 10, 2017 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Goodreads Synopsis: Ayla Hawkins is ready to stand up for change in her high school. But winning the election for class president against popular Jenna Lee will be impossible without a miracle. When she stumbles upon Mr. Perfect Luke Pressler defacing public property and catches it on camera: cue miracle. Ayla’s got the dirt she needs to get Luke on Team Ayla—in the form of her new fake boyfriend. One mistake. All Luke wanted was a night to goof off, to blow off steam. The pressure of maintaining the perfect facade when his reality was crumbling around him had become too much, and next thing he knew, he was pretending to date Ayla Hawkins. But his little blackmailer turns out to be kind. Honorable. Opinionated. And just the breath of fresh air he didn’t even realize he was suffocating for. But Luke and Ayla come from different worlds, and once the election is over, their fauxmance will be, too. Review: This book was fantastic. I read this book in one day because I could not put it down.It was a perfect little package of romance and a classic contemporary novel. I loved the plot although I will admit it was a little bit cliche. Simply put, Incriminating Dating was about Ayla Hawkins and Luke Pressler. They are in the fake boyfriend and girlfriend situation. As the story progresses, they start to get to actually know each other and the rest is history. I loved Ayla. She was such a good character. She was complex, sassy, stood up for what she believed in, and more. She also has an awesome name. Now onto Luke, he is the epitome of a swoon worthy guy. He will definitely be on my book boyfriend list! :) I think this is a standalone, but I would love to have a sequel. Overall, this was a phenomenal book with great characters and I highly recommend it! About the Author: Rebekah was born and raised in Michigan where she spent many late nights armed with a good book and a flashlight. She’s lived in Michigan most of her life other than the few years she spent in the U.S. Army. At which time she got a chance to experience Missouri, Kansas, South Carolina, and California. Rebekah has a business degree from University of Phoenix and currently works full time for the court system. In her free time she writes YA stories, anything from YA Fantasy to YA Contemporary Romance. Rebekah also has a big family (6 kids), she likes to consider her family as the modern day Brady Bunch complete with crazy road trips and game nights. When not hiding at her computer, Rebekah enjoys reading, singing, soccer, swimming, football, camping, playing video games, traveling, and hanging out with her family and gazillion pets. Author Interview: 1. What is the inspiration behind incriminating dating? I actually got the idea for the book a long time ago (like 4 years ago), but didn’t have time to write it. I kept having this scene with a not so popular girl catching a popular boy committing a crime and deciding to blackmail him rolling through my head. I’d set the idea aside and when my editor asked if I’d write another book for her, I instantly thought this one might actually fit. And some of the parts about Ayla working for the school paper and being censored actually came from some things that happened to me when I wrote for my school paper. 2. What is your favorite book (if you can pick one!)? OMG, my list is endless (LOL). But I think the couple that come to mind that I’ve read several times are: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, How I live Now by Meg Rosoff, The Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith, and The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. 3. What is your favorite candy? EEP, another toss up (hahaha). I love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Reese’s Pieces…(although I wouldn’t pass up chocolate in general). 4. What is the best part about writing? Being able to share my stories with readers and having them connect with them. And I LOVE hearing from readers. 5. What is the toughest part about writing? Deadlines. LOL. Because I have a full time day job and kids, it’s hard to sometimes balance everything. 6. What is your favorite scene in incriminating dating? OMG, I love a lot of them. But I’d have to say either the scene where Luke and Ayla are on a hayride together, or they’re in the photo booth together. Partially because we get some “swoony” moments (hahaha). ![]() Title: Lose Me. Author: M.C. Frank Series: Standalone Genre: Contemporary, Romance Publisher: M.C. Frank Date Published: April 11, 2017 (today!) Pages: 366 Goodreads Synopsis: Ari Demos starts every day with this thought. Fresh out of high school, she's landed a coveted role as a stunt double in a new Pride and Prejudice adaptation starring the Hollywood phenomenon Weston Spencer. But this job isn't going to be easy: Ari will be performing complicated water stunts and driving fast cars along the narrow cliffs of Corfu. One false step and she could lose not only her job, but her life. And then Wes Spencer, Mr Darcy himself, arrives in Greece. He's got dirty blonde hair, a mile-long yacht and a bored look on that gorgeous face. Ari wants nothing to do with the rich actor boy, but on the day she meets him, she has an accident. One that almost claims her life. And now she can't hide from the truth any longer: She might be much closer to losing everything than she thought. She might be dying. And the British actor is the last person she'd expect to save her life. She's a hard-working island girl. He's adored by millions. Falling in love was never supposed to be a part of the job. Staying alive was never supposed to be a part of growing up. Was this story ever meant for a happily ever after? A message from M.C. Frank: “LOSE ME. is the NA (new adult) story of a British actor and a stunt girl. They meet while filming a modern Pride and Prejudice adaptation on the island of Corfu, and fall in hate at first sight! Things aren't as they seem, however, and soon enough sparks begin to fly. What they don't know is that a dark, heartbreaking secret is threatening to tear them apart. I am so excited to share this story with you guys, all of you have been so supportive through the entire publishing process, I have never felt less alone in my life! This book is so close to my heart, because it deals with a lot of issues I myself have had to deal with. One of them is extremely serious and I haven't read or seen any book that deals with it, and so it is even more important to me to raise awareness about it. A very special person in my life has had to deal with it, and my book is dedicated to him. Actually, I think that's the main reason inspiration took me to this story; it was because I needed to tell my story as well as his, and to put it out there in the world, so that more people can know that they are understood and that they are not alone in their struggle.” Who is your modern day Mr. Darcy? Take this quiz to find out: Giveaway: Author Interview: 1. What inspired you to write this book? A number of things, including my love for the island of Corfu, and Pride and Prejudice. But most of all, this book is so close to my heart, because it deals with a lot of issues I myself have had to deal with: fear, anxiety, failure (and acting, but that’s another story). One of these issues, which I won’t name, because it’s a spoiler, is extremely serious and I haven't read or seen any book that deals with it, and so it is even more important to me to raise awareness about it. A very special person in my life has gone through a similar situation, and my book is dedicated to him. Actually, I think that's the main inspiration behind this story; I wrote it because I needed to tell my story as well as his, and to put it out there in the world, so that more people can realize that they are understood and that they are not alone in their struggle. 2. What is the hardest part of writing? Editing. Luckily, I love reading my stories over and over again (at least for the first hundred times, after that it becomes kinda boring), because that’s the main reason I write: I write because I want to read that particular story. That said, when I edit I do find a few cringe-worthy mistakes, but with a little perseverance (or a lot), everything gets fixed by the end. 3. What is the best part of writing? Everything. The part I love most is the very beginning of a new story, when it’s all new, I’m coming up with ideas right and left until I think my brain will explode, and my hands can’t type down stuff fast enough. So the brainstorming and outlining parts are really fun, but I also love it when the story begins to take shape. And, of course, let’s not forget that amazing feeling when lovely readers fall in love with your characters for the first time! Just thinking about it gives me a rush. But the very best part of writing is escape. It’s even better than reading, for me, because I am the one creating the world and the story, and thus in control. 4. What's your favorite book (if you can pick!)? Now, that’s an evil question. (I’m kidding). How to choose? I love Jane Eyre, and I think it’s a pure work of genius. But I also love everything by Dickens and Shakespeare. From more modern writers, Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man is my all time favorite, and from YA/NA I would definitely pick Daughter of Smoke and Bone (only the first book) and Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. Wait, how many books did you ask me to pick? Ooops. 5. What is your favorite color? Blue. 6. What is your favorite part of Lose Me? That’s so hard, but I’ll try to pick just one (at least this once). Oh, I know. The “say something” scene. It tore at my heartstrings. Connect with M.C. Frank:
