Synopsis: Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life- no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who's pretty sure things can't get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, if forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could. But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla's powers begin to evolve, and she's offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She's finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay... Review: This book mainly focuses on Zayne, whereas White Hot Kiss mainly focused on Roth. The book starts out very depressing. Layla basically rehashes losing Roth over and over again. When she goes back to school, the most unexpected thing happens. Dean, a shy guy in Layla's class, punches someone. Hard. In fact, Dean punched him so hard, he stopped breathing. Like holy crap, imagine how hard the punch would've had to be to kill him. After this... strange event, Layla starts to notice something weird. She can't see souls or auras anymore, which means she'll have no idea who has a soul and who doesn't.
"Roth," I whispered." YES!!!! OH MY GOD! HE'S BACK! Hehe... I'm totally not freaking out... Well, sadly, my happiness didn't last long. Roth is back but he isn't the same. He and Layla talk and he is a complete and total douche. I definitely took a double take at this. This isn't the Roth I remember. :( Stacey, Sam, Layla, and Zayne decide to grab something to eat after school, and of course, Roth shows up. Zayne finds out that Layla hasn't exactly told him everything about Roth. Roth goes to Layla's school, and Zayne didn't know. Wait, what? I completely forgot that Layla had never told Zayne about them staying at the same school. Zayne, Layla, and Roth go to the garage where Zayne's car is parked, and run into some... visitors... what it seems like are church members. And guess what, they know about demons. What? I thought humans didn't know about demons? Let alone the Lilin... Long story short, Layla gets stabbed in the arm and Danika, of all people, stitches her up. Layla and Roth decide to check out the old gymnasium. They think they may find some evidence or clues as to where the Lilin is. Instead, they find a witch. And a Nightcrawler. The Nightcrawler is definitely not friendly. It attacks them and in the process, Layla gets scratched by one. Roth takes her back to his loft and pours holy water on it. He also calls Zayne to let him know where Layla is. When Zayne arrives, he punches Roth. Let's be honest though, the way Roth has been acting, we all wanted to do that too. Roth manages to convince Layla to skip the rest of school and "be bad" with him. He takes her to a clud filled with demons. Layla unconsciously tastes someones soul and essentially gets high off of it. Roth lets her sleep in his loft, and as you can probably imagine, Zayne was pissed. Zayne, Layla, Stacey, and Sam go to the movies and the guy from the church comes back, and douses Layla in holy water. After being rushed to Stacey's house and showering to get it all off of her, Layla is forced to tell Stacey and Sam what she really is. Okay, Zayne kisses Layla and she tastes his soul. I did NOT see that coming. Maddox, a Warden, basically says enough is enough and stabs Layla. HE STABBED HER. What. The. Hell. Luckily Dex and Nicholai got Cayman and Roth to show up just in time. Roth takes her to his loft. In search of help, Cayman seeks the witches who worship Lilith. Thankfully, what they gave her helps, and she survives. "I love you, Layla. Do you hear me? I've loved you since the first moment I heard your voice and I will continue to love you. No matter what. I love you." OH, ALL THE FEELS HAPPENING AT ONCE. Team Loth/Rayla forever! I think this is a good note to end the review on. Bottom line, READ THIS BOOK. IT'S AMAZING! Buy Stone Cold Touch:
