Title: Starry Eyes
Author: Jenn Bennett
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Date Published: April 23, 2018
Ever since last year’s homecoming dance, best friends-turned-best enemies Zorie and Lennon have made an art of avoiding each other. It doesn’t hurt that their families are the modern day, Californian version of the Montagues and Capulets.
But when a group camping trip goes south, Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness. Alone. Together.
What could go wrong?
With no one but each other for company, Zorie and Lennon have no choice but to hash out their issues via witty jabs and insults as they try to make their way to safety. But fighting each other while also fighting off the forces of nature makes getting out of the woods in one piece less and less likely.
And as the two travel deeper into Northern California’s rugged backcountry, secrets and hidden feelings surface. But can Zorie and Lennon’s rekindled connection survive out in the real world? Or was it just a result of the fresh forest air and the magic of the twinkling stars?
Starry Eyes is easily one of my favorite books of the year so far! It was absolutely phenomenal! I am so glad that I got the opportunity to read this book!! I have a lot of things to talk about in this review so let’s jump in!
First, I have to mention how much I adored the setting! As someone who really loves hiking and the mountains, it was so much fun to have that as the setting of most of the book! I’ve never read a YA book before that took place in the mountains, with hiking and camping, so this was super unique to me and I absolutely loved it! The way that Jenn Bennett incorporated the setting into Lennon and Zorie’s journey was simply wonderful.
I also really loved the characters of Lennon and Zorie. There were so many unique quirks to both of them which really made the story that much more enjoyable. In addition, I love the chemistry that was between them. Even immediately, you can tell that something has happened between them.
Finally, I want to mention the underlying plot. Of course, there was the adorable main plot going on between Lennon and Zorie, but there was also a second plot about their parents that really kept the mystery alive, which is pretty rare in YA contemporary novels.
Overall, Starry Eyes is an AMAZING book, and I can’t praise it enough. I highly, highly recommend getting your hands on this book and reading it!!
