"Pressure clamped down on my chest, as if someone were squeezing my heart and lungs with vise grips. Every so often, Sergeant Dasher’s warning came back to haunt me. I’d seriously thought the man—that all of Daedalus—was riding the crazy train into Insanity Land, but they had been right."
-Chapter 1, "Opposition" by Jennifer L Armentrout

It's Monday! What are you reading? I mentioned in my post last week that I was re-reading the Lux series. I got caught up in other things this past week, so I didn't get around to finish re-reading the series. So, I am planning on re-reading the rest of the series this week. I still have Opal, Origin, and Opposition.
I am almost finished with the Dark Elements series. I love it! I love Jennifer L Armentrout's books so I wasn't surprised that I enjoyed it so much. I will be finishing the last book in the series this week. Synopsis: The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable. Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved. Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself. Review: This was included in the back of Opposition, but it will be released in paperback; by itself in November. Technically this is Lux series 0.5. I suggest if you are going to read this as a prequel, to read Obsidian first because it will make a lot more sense. On the other hand, if you have finished the whole series, this fills in the gaps of Obsidian. It is basically the backstory that you don't really learn much about in Obsidian and the rest of the series. Shadows fills in the missing puzzle pieces of why Daemon was initially so hostile to Kat, the relationship between the Blacks and the government, and the structure of the relationship between the Blacks and the Thompsons. Dawson really is something else. Obviously since Dawson is Daemon's identical twin, Dawson looks exactly like Daemon. They both carry themselves with a confidence that not many people/Luxen have. But where Daemon is the "bad boy brother," Dawson is the "good boy." Dawson just falls so hard for Bethany. It's completely adorable. Among the Luxen, while relationships with humans aren't forbidden, they are generally frowned upon. But Dawson is completely smitten and is willing to risk everything for a chance to be with her. Since I read this after reading the entire Lux series, I knew what would happen to Dawson and Beth. But I didn't want anything to happen to them, they are just so in love. It crushed me to watch them fight to be a normal couple, free from the judgement of their species. In this book you also get to really see the Thompson triplets. Andrew in Dawson and Beth's POVs really isn't much different from Katy's. The end to the novella is heartbreaking even though I knew what was going to happen. During Shadows you see how close Dawson is to Dee. Which made Dee's loss hurt even more. I loved the insight you get into why Daemon acts the way he does toward humans. Overall, I love this novella because you get to see the backstory of Dawson and Beth, before the events in the rest of the series take place. Reading order of the Lux series: Obsidian (Lux #1) Shadows (Lux #0.5) Oblivion (Lux #1.5) Onyx (Lux #2) Opal (Lux #3) Origin (Lux #4) Opposition (Lux #5) Buy Shadows here: *Shadows is available in paperback for preorder. Synopsis: Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all. Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind. War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing. Review: Okay, the hardest thing about finding a new series that you love is reaching the last book and having to say goodbye. The last books of series are always the toughest to read. On one hand you want to speed through the book to find out what happens, on the other hand you want to read the book incredibly slow and savor the series before it ends. You get submersed in the world of the book and you don't want to leave. I've read series that I have loved but when it came down to the last book, it just disappointed me because my expectations were so high from reading the other books in that series. That really wasn't the case when it came to the Lux series. After reading the first book, Obsidian, I fell in love with the series. And after that, book after book in the Lux series, I loved. Opposition was the PERFECT ending to an absolutely phenomenal series! In my Origin review, I said that it was hard for me to distinguish between Katy's and Daemon's POVs. This was not the case in this book. I'm not sure why but it was so easy for me to tell whose mind I was in. I was happy about that because I love the Lux series so much and I don't want any negative things to say about the series. When Katy and Archer went to the store to get items for Beth, I just had this weird feeling that something bad would happen. When I was reading this section of the book, I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for something to happen. And when it finally did, I had to just keep reading and reading. I was so eager to find out what was going to happen, I read this book so quickly. At the beginning of the book, it was hard for me to tell if Daemon really was on the Luxen's side or not. REALLY hard to tell. When we found out that he and Dawson had been faking their emotions, I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. Soon after, I realized the reason they were able to separate from the invading Luxen was that they had someone that they loved so much, it was able to free them from being controlled. After that my heart broke in two. Dee wasn't faking. I hated Sadi from the moment we first met her. When we found out that she was an Origin and knew that Dawson and Daemon had been faking all along, I really hated her. I loved the scene when Katy attacked Sadi. You go girl! I was biting my nails when Dee came and Katy had to fight her. I truly didn't know what would happen and that really terrified me. I was shocked when Daemon and Katy learned that because of the Prometheus serum, one could die without killing the other. And I thought, why would Jennifer do that unless one of them dies? So I was basically a nervous wreck from that point on. When Daemon got injured and Kat was thinking about how much she loved him, I burst into tears. It was so upsetting! You really have to read the book to find out what I mean because it's hard to explain. When Archer, Dee, Daemon, Dawson, and Kat went back to Petersburg, I really didn't want Kat to go, in fear of what happened to her mom. When Kat finds out that her mom had been assimilated, my heart broke for her. At the end of the series, lots of characters died. Some were enemies and some were friends. But Daemon and Kat got their happy ending. So did Dawson and Beth, and Archer and Dee. Sadly, Luc didn't and we don't know exactly what happened to Nadia, but I am assuming she died. I may have gotten some tears on the book when Dawson and Beth name their baby Ash and in the extended parts on Jennifer's website, when Daemon and Kat name their baby Adam. It also shocked me that some Arum like Lore and Hunter weren't necessarily bad. Although lots of Arum still are. Lotho definitely freaked me out. I was intrigued with the idea of an Arum and a human. I read Obsession to learn more about Hunter and Serena. And wow. It really was a shocker. The cover of Opposition annoys me because it doesn't match with the other books. But we will be getting Opposition in a new cover that does actually match the rest of the series. We will also be getting Shadows in paperback. These will come out in November. Here's the current cover: Here's the new cover: Ahh the ending few pages killed me. I want more Daemon and Kat! I can't believe this series is over. :( Here are my other reviews for the Lux series: Links to buy Opposition: "Sit down, son." "Don’t think about the kiss. Don’t think about the kiss. Impossible." -Page 139, "Sweet Evil" by Wendy Higgins I'll just leave this quote for you to think about... ;) What am I currently reading?
I am currently reading the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L Armentrout. What have I recently finished? I recently finished the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout. (My favorite series!!!) What am I reading next? After I finish the Dark Elements series, I am planning on ordering the Poison Princess series by Kresley Cole and reading that. "Roth glanced at me, then at the assistant principal. He ducked his head, smiling demurely. Right then and there, I knew he was about to do something really bad. Like demon-level bad. And all I could do was brace for it."
-Chapter 5, "White Hot Kiss" by Jennifer L Armentrout It's Monday! What are you reading? Currently, I am reading the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L Armentrout. I am a huge fan of all of Jennifer L Armentrout's books, so naturally, I love this series so far.

Over the weekend, I finished rereading Obsidian (the 1st book) and Onyx (the 2nd book). I plan on rereading the whole series. I also downloaded and started to read Oblivion from the Lux series in e-book form because it has content that wasn't included in the paperback version. |
