Synopsis: I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it. And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are. But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can't stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game. Falling for Katy—a human—won't just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen... Review: There are technically two versions of this book. There is the paperback copy, which only features Obsidian from Daemon's POV, and there is the eBook version, which has Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal from Daemon's POV. So just keep that in mind when buying this book. Now, you might think that this is just going to be the same as reading the books in Katy's POV, well, you're most definitely wrong. It's actually the complete opposite. Personally, I enjoyed being in Daemon's mind. When you read from Katy's POV, you see Daemon basically being a complete and total douche. But when you're reading from Daemon's, you see that he was only acting that way to protect both Dee and Katy. He is determined to fight his feelings for Katy in order to keep her safe. It was interesting seeing Daemon's fascination of Kat. When he first sees her he learns she is anything but average. It is clear how much responsibility falls on Daemon's shoulders, having to keep Dee, then Katy safe. What also comes though is how inevitable Daemon's feelings for Katy are. There is absolutely no doubt of Daemon's feelings when reading from his POV. Now onto Onyx and Opal, even in Daemon's POV, it was quite frustrating when Katy didn't trust Daemon and decided to train with Blake anyway (and we all know how that ends up...) The one thing I really loved about this book was how Daemon was slowly falling in love with Katy even though he didn't realize it right away himself. I am a huge fan of Jennifer L Armentrout, so naturally, I loved this book. If you love the Lux series, you will definitely enjoy this. Links to buy: Other Lux series reviews:
"Daemon snorted. "No, but I have a problem with my sister so willing to kill."
"I can't..." I couldn't even finish. Going into this, I knew it wasn't going to be good, but Ash and Andrew were the ones I expected to want to go all serial killer- never Dee." -"Opal" by Jennifer L Armentrout What am I currently reading?
I am currently reading Poison Princess by Kresley Cole. What have I recently finished? I recently finished Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. What am I reading next? I am going to be reading Every Last Breath by Jennifer L Armentrout. "How are you feeling?" Mom asked with an appraising eye. "You sure you're up for this?"
I finished my hair, pasted on a smile, and lied through my teeth, "Definitely." Though we'd been over this, I patiently said, "The docs told me that settling back into a normal routine might be good for someone like me." -Chapter 1, "Poison Princess" by Kresley Cole I am finally getting around to finishing Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. It's taken me a while because I got sidetracked with so many other different things going on. I am also reading Onyx again because I got one of my friends obsessed with the Lux series so I am reading the books with her. Happy reading to all!
This past week I've managed to read two books. I re-read Obsidian (again :)) and I re-read Unknown in preparation for the cover reveal for Unrest. I got one of my friends at school hooked on the Lux series. Haha... oops... Last week on the blog: Next week on the blog: -It's Monday! What are you reading?
-Teaser Tuesday -WWW Wednesday -Thursday Quotables -Friday 56 -Oblivion Review Synopsis: Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.
When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have. In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more. Review: I absolutely love Wendy Higgins' writing. I first discovered her through a Wattpad story where the Sweet Evil book were mentioned. The series caught my eye so I decided to buy the first book to see if I like it or not. I adored it and immediately ordered the next books. The Great Hunt and See Me are both on my TBR list and I'm looking forward to reading those as well. I was browsing on Wattpad and saw that Wendy had posted something new. It was the start of a book called Unknown. I was hooked from the very beginning and was extremely excited to learn it would be coming out soon. I have the ebook version of it because I wanted to read it right then and there. I read it in a day. Luckily, Wendy responds to people on Twitter. I heard that the second book (Unrest) would be coming out in winter of 2017. I immediately wanted to know if that meant it would be coming out in January/February of 2017 or December of 2017. I asked Wendy on Twitter, and thankfully it will be coming out on February 16th. I can hardly wait for February, I can't imagine how hard it would be do wait until next December. The first 1/4 or so of this book is comprised of Amber, Tater, and Rylen's childhood. It starts when they all first meet. I thought it was awesome that Wendy included that scene because it gives the background history that most books don't. I've read several apocalyptic type books but this one is the only one that took place in our time period. That actually kind of freaked me out because all of the other ones seemed like something like that could never happen currently. But in Unknown, something like that actually could happen right now. Amber Tate is just your normal girl who's in love with her brother's best friend, Rylen Fite. Other than the fact that she thinks Rylen doesn't return her feelings, her life is pretty good. That is until an unknown organization attacks amusement parks all over the country. After that, nothing really happens for a while and people start to calm down about the crazy events that happened that day. Almost every leader in the country is at a meeting... together.... what can go wrong? The unknown organization strikes again, this time bombing major cities and killing all of the leaders in that meeting. The whole world goes into a state of shock. Then chaos. After the bombings, all electricity is down. People begin to panic and start to loot stores. When Amber and her family seem to have lost everything, her grandfather pulls a trick out of his sleeve. He has a secret stash of canned food, bottled waters, and weapons. Both Amber's brother, Jacob (Tater), and Rylen are in the military which gives them the ability to help. But they aren't the only ones with something to contribute, Amber is determined to put her emergency room experiences to good use. The book isn't really focused on romance. The characters are focused on surviving, as they should be considering the world is falling apart around them. I really did enjoy this book and I highly recommend it! :) Buy Unknown: "Daemon pulled his hand back and tapped the blue cap of his pen on the corner of his lips. Lips I was well familiar with. "Good morning, Kitten." I forced my gaze to his eyes. Bright green, like the stem of a freshly cut rose. "Good morning, Daemon."
-"Onyx" by Jennifer L Armentrout "I waited, thinking that any second he would break out of the water, lungs gasping for breath, but seconds turned into a minute, and then another. I kept searching the calm surface for any sign of Daemon, growing more frantic with each sweep of my eyes. I dragged my hair behind my ears, cupping my hand against the harsh sun. There was no way he could've held his breath this long. No way."
